Request files from other people

A file request gives another person a focused upload link. It is useful when you need plans, photos, or other supporting files without giving the uploader access to the rest of a workspace.

Before you begin

Open File Sharing in the correct workspace and choose File requests. You need permission to create a request. Decide who in the workspace should receive and review the submitted files.

Create a request on the web

  1. Choose Request files.
  2. Enter a Title and clear Instructions describing what to upload.
  3. Choose Send files to to identify the responsible workspace member.
  4. Set Accept files for. Request links expire within 14 days of creation; the current default is seven days.
  5. Open More options if you need additional reviewers, uploader information, or access checks.
  6. Create the request, open it, and choose Copy request link.
  7. Send the complete link to the person who should upload the files.

The people chosen to receive or review files are workspace reviewers. That selection is different from the people to whom you send the upload link.

Choose optional information and checks

The request can make an uploader's name, email, or phone number required, optional, or hidden. It can also include custom questions and optional password or answer checks.

These controls help collect context or limit use of a forwarded link. Information supplied by an uploader is not a verified identity. Review submissions accordingly, and share any password separately when that makes sense for the handoff.

The uploader opens the complete request link in a browser, reads the instructions, supplies any required information or checks, and selects the files. They do not need to join the workspace to use the public request page. They should keep the page open until it confirms submission.

The current request flow accepts PDF, JPG/JPEG, PNG, TXT, and CSV files. It accepts up to 10 files in one submission, up to 100 MiB per file and 500 MiB total per submission. A request also has overall submission and storage limits. Follow any limits or errors shown by the upload form.

The uploader does not receive a listing of other people's submitted files. Received files are reviewed from the request inside Bridge by the people with the relevant access.

iPhone and iPad

Open File Sharing → File requests and choose New file request. The mobile composer uses Expires, Responsible member, and Advanced options. Its information section explains that uploader details do not verify identity.

After creation, use Share request link from the request detail sheet. The uploader can open the resulting link in a browser; they do not need to navigate the workspace's project or inventory screens to submit files.

Creating, sharing, and submitting a request needs an online connection. Do not treat a cached request list as confirmation that a new public upload link has been created.

Review or close the request

Open the request's Received files to review completed submissions and download the files your access allows. If no submissions appear, check that the uploader reached the completion confirmation.

Use Close request when you no longer want new uploads. A request can also become unavailable after expiration, access changes, or reaching its limits. Closing or expiring a request is different from deleting previously received content.
